IT Infrastructure & Operations (Strategic Coordination) Intern

Located: Princeton, NJ | Full-Time

We are a dynamic and innovative energy trading company based in Princeton, NJ. While our IT team is technically elite, we believe that the best technology is one that stays ahead of the business's needs rather than just reacting to failures. We are seeking a unique IT Infrastructure & Operations Intern who acts as a bridge between technical systems and human workflows. This role is not just about managing servers; it’s about active listening, cross-departmental coordination, and proactive problem-solving. You will spend significant time engaging with various business units to understand their workflows, identifying potential bottlenecks, and designing "preventative" projects to ensure our IT environment remains robust and invisible.

  • Start Date: May 2026
  • Duration: 12 weeks (Full-time)
  • Application Deadline: April 1st, 2026

  • Key Responsibilities
    • Cross-Functional Liaison: Actively communicate with different departments (Trading, Risk, Operations, etc.) to audit their daily workflows and identify how IT infrastructure can better support their goals.
    • Proactive Prevention Projects: Instead of “firefighting,” you will analyze system trends and user feedback to design and organize projects aimed at preventing IT outages and performance lags.
    • Process Mapping: Document and optimize inter-departmental IT request flows to reduce friction and improve response transparency.
    • Strategic Technical Support: Provide hands-on support for server management, cloud configuration (AWS/Azure), and network security, but with a focus on “User Experience” and long-term stability.
    • Internal Advocacy: Translate complex technical constraints into clear business impacts for non-technical stakeholders, and vice-versa.
    • Infrastructure Optimization: Participate in server management, identity management, and data center operations with an eye toward automation and “self-healing” systems.

  • Qualifications
    • Education: Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a dual-degree/minor in Business Administration (MBA), Management, or Communications. We highly value candidates who can balance technical rigor with administrative insight.
    • Proactive Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a “customer-first” mindset. You must be comfortable walking up to a different desk to ask, “How can we make your workflow smoother?”
    • Analytical & Preventive Mindset: Ability to see the “big picture” and design systems that stop problems before they occur.
    • Technical Literacy: Proficiency in coding (e.g., Python) for automation.
    • Basic understanding of networking (VPN, TCP/IP, DNS) and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
    • Familiarity with DevOps tools like Docker, Jenkins, or Terraform for continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes.
    • Experience scripting (PowerShell, Bash) and version control (Git).
    • Basic knowledge of database (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) operation, database optimization and administration, SQL experience.
    • Experience or familiarity with penetration testing or vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, Nmap) to identify security gaps and improve defenses is a plus.
    • Bonus: Experience in trading/financial systems or a history of “Home Lab” projects that demonstrate self-driven curiosity.

  • What We Offer
    • Impactful Work: You won’t just be a “ticket taker.” You will have the authority to propose and lead projects that change how our company operates.
    • Mentorship: Direct collaboration with senior IT professionals and business leaders.
    • Career Growth: Top-performing interns will be considered for full-time roles as IT Infrastructure Analysts or developer roles.
