IT Infrastructure Engineer Intern

Located: Princeton, NJ | Full-Time

We are a dynamic energy trading company based in Princeton, NJ. Our infrastructure team operates well above the typical enterprise IT model — we build and maintain production cloud environments, manage enterprise networking and identity systems, and run data pipelines that directly support trading operations. We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer Intern to work on active engineering projects spanning cloud infrastructure, networking, security, and automation. This is not a shadow-and-watch role — you will be shipping real work into production, debugging independently, and expected to ask precise questions when you get stuck. We especially value candidates with strong networking or security foundations. If you run a home lab or have built your own infrastructure out of curiosity, we want to hear about it.

  • Start Date: May 2026
  • Duration: 12 weeks (Full-time)
  • Application Deadline: April 15th, 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Help provision, configure, and maintain cloud resources including virtual machines, databases, storage, and virtual networking components.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Contribute to IaC efforts, helping migrate manual configurations into version-controlled, repeatable modules.
  • Networking & Security: Support network configuration, firewall management, and security hardening initiatives including vulnerability assessments and segmentation reviews.
  • Automation: Write scripts to automate infrastructure tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Deployments & Containers: Help build and maintain deployment pipelines and assist with container orchestration workflows.
  • Identity & Access: Support cloud identity configuration and access policy management.
  • Documentation & Communication: Maintain infrastructure documentation and translate technical issues clearly for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Incident Support: Participate in troubleshooting production issues across networking, compute, and identity systems.

Qualifications

  • Education: Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Networking: Working knowledge of core networking concepts — TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, firewalls, and subnetting. This is a core requirement for the role, not optional.
  • Cloud: Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform. Azure experience is preferred; AWS or GCP background is transferable.
  • Scripting: Experience with at least one scripting language such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Security: Basic understanding of security principles including least privilege, defense-in-depth, and common attack vectors.
  • Version Control: Comfortable with Git in a collaborative, code-review workflow.
  • Communication: Able to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences. Professionalism under pressure is important.
  • Mindset: Self-sufficient and adaptable in a fast-paced, small-team environment with broad scope.

What We Offer

  • Impactful Work: You will contribute to production systems supporting live trading operations.
  • Mentorship: Direct collaboration with the infrastructure team and exposure to enterprise tooling most interns never encounter.
  • Career Growth: Top-performing interns will be considered for full-time infrastructure or engineering roles.
